PORTA Music Boosters
By Matt Johnson
The PORTA Music Boosters is an organization of parents and
family members interested in supporting the music program
throughout the PORTA School District. The music boosters are very
active throughout the school year helping with fundraising
activities as well as helping at the numerous music activities,
which we host at PORTA. The money that the music boosters raise is
used to help purchase instruments, sheet music and any other
supplies necessary for the musical education of PORTA students.
Just this past year the music boosters have helped in the purchase
of the new marching band uniforms which we will be wearing this
school year!
Funds are raised from the sales of pizza and cookie dough through
Clubs Choice, and also through the sales of Watkins products. They
also earn money from the concession stands, which operate during
I.M.E.A. District IV Auditions, I.H.S.A. Solo and Ensemble Contest,
I.H.S.A. Organization Contest as well as I.E.S.A. Organization
Contest for the junior high music students. The Music Boosters also
raise funds at the annual cookie walk held in conjunction with the
Christmas Craft Show and also at the Fun Fair Carnival and Concert,
which is held in February.
Whether you are a student, parent, guardian, alumni or a person who just loves music, we hope that you appreciate the quality of the music program and the extracurricular music opportunities offered to our students here at PORTA. The Music Boosters meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 in the High School Choir Room. We will try to keep you informed of meeting dates in the Petersburg Observer and also the school website. We will also try to have a calendar of music events posted on the website with all of the different things that our music students do throughout the district. We hope that you will be able to join us in our efforts to support music education in the PORTA School System.
