PORTA FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER EVENT APRIL 21, 2012
The PORTA Foundation was created in 1985 to help secure and strengthen the mutually beneficial and necessary relationship between the PORTA community, the students and the educators within the district. Since that time, PORTA Foundation has provided funds for many academic, musical, and theatrical activities at all grade levels. In fact, since 1997 the Foundation has funded over $234,000.00 for the PORTA schools and especially the students.
Examples of Foundation purchases include $1852.00 for new risers for 5th through 12th grade students in the PORTA choral department. After receiving a request from the Jr.-Sr. high choral/music department in 2006, the foundation purchased an electronic piano at a cost of $1697.50. These purchases have been used throughout the district in many wonderful performances given by PORTA students. PORTA Foundation also assisted the district in 2008 by donating $10,000 towards the purchase of a new and more efficient sound system for the PORTA auditorium. Many citizens and students have certainly benefited from this sound system and the many great performances that have been held in the PORTA auditorium.
The PORTA Foundation is planning a fundraiser for April 21, 2012. This fund raising event will be held at the Hill Prairie Winery. The evening will begin with appetizers at 5 pm at which time the PORTA Jazz choir will perform. PORTA student and accomplished pianist Adam Power will play during the dinner hour from 6-7 pm. Adding to the fun and beginning at 7:30, local auctioneer Ron Sanert will MC a charitable auction for fabulous items and Whirled Peas will entertain.
Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased from Neil Gurnsey at the National Bank of Petersburg (632-3241), from any Foundation committee member or from Heidi Scaggs or Mary Mies at the PORTA Jr- Sr High School (632-3216). Mark your calendars and support the PORTA foundation in its efforts to continue to support education in our district.
