The PORTA District recently collected voter registration data from the Menard County Court house and sent a consolidation survey to each household with a voting member within the PORTA District. The District sent three thousand surveys and received 553 responses. Of the respondents 93% were property owners, 74% were 45 or older and 69% of respondents did not have children in school. When asked if respondents would be in favor of a consolidation with A-C Central School District 78% responded âYESâ. When asked if respondents would support a consolidation if the District were forced to reduce programs 79% responded âYESâ. When asked if âIf a vote for consolidation failed, would you be in favor of a tax increase to maintain current programming at PORTAâ, 67% of respondents said âNOâ. When asked to rate their knowledge about the reasons for consolidation 74% of respondents stated felt they could make an inform decision or knew all the important factors related to consolidation.
A number of respondents wrote about their concerns and so those concerns have been consolidated into 18 general concerns or questions. Additionally, a Board and Administrative perspective is given for each of the eighteen concerns as a means of information and clarification. As always, the PORTA Board of Education is willing to listen and learn from all of our communities. Please feel free to call any Board member or administrator to ask questions or give feedback.
Thank You,
Mark Lounsberry, Jd Stewart, Mark Schappaugh, Mark McCurdy, Joni Churchill, Kevin Bettis, Max Bumgardner and Superintendent Matt Brue.
