Board Member Candidates Filing Period Opens September 25, 2012.

Nominating petition forms for the April 9, 2013 school board election in PORTA CUSD #202 are now available. Forms may be picked up in the Superintendent’s office at 17651 Bluejay Road Petersburg IL 62675 on any business day between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
A school board candidate’s petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than 8:00 a.m., on Monday, December 17, 2012 and no later than 5:00 p.m., Monday December 21, 2012.
Candidate’s names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary’s office.
Three (3) seats on the seven-member board of education will be filled at the April 9 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017.
Current members whose terms are expiring are Mark Lounsberry, JD Stewart, and Joni Churchill.
State law provides that only up to three people from the same Township and Range may sit on the PORTA Board at on time. Currently, the PORTA district seats one member from T19NR7W, three members from T18NR7W and three members from T18NR6W voting areas. The general area of T18NR7W includes the city of Petersburg and the Lake area, this area has three members at this point and none are up for reelection. As such, no new members can be chosen from this particular area. Voting District T18NR6W, will have two open seats and includes East of the Sangamon River (Woodland Lakes area) and approximately from the Athens Blacktop area to north of Jellystone road. All other voting districts are completely open to up to three seats.
