DATE: November 7, 2013
RE: School Board Election
Nominating petition forms for the March 18, 2014 school board election for the combined PORTA/A-C Central District are now available. Forms may be picked up in the superintendents’ offices of the PORTA and A-C Central School Districts, the Menard and Cass County Courthouses, and also at the main office of the Logan/Mason/Menard Regional Office of Education, which is located at 122 N. McLean Street in Lincoln, on any business day.
As you probably know, the voters of A-C Central Community Unit School District No. 262 and PORTA Community Unit School District No. 202 will decide at the March 18, 2014 election whether the two districts should be consolidated into one combined unit school district. At the same election, voters will elect a new board of education to govern the new district, if the consolidation is approved. Members of the new board will be elected in seven school board districts, each of which is compact and contiguous and substantially equal in population to each other school board district. If you are a candidate for a seat, only registered voters residing within your school board district may sign your petition. If you have any questions about the boundaries of the school board districts, copies of the legal descriptions and the map establishing the boundaries are available at the Regional Superintendent’s office in Lincoln, at both School District offices, and in the offices of both the Menard and Cass County Clerks.
A school board candidate’s petition must be filed in the main Regional Office of Education located in Lincoln no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2.
Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the Regional Superintendent’s office.
