I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. This is my 11th year as a teacher in the district and in the fifth grade. I am also a full time bus drive for the district with a route in rural Oakford I graduated from Girard High School a rural community school just like PORTA. I then went on to graduate from Mac Murray College in Jacksonville in 2002. My wife, three year old daughter, our cat and I live in Athens.
I will be assigning homework just about every day, however if your child uses his or her time wisely he or she should be able to get most of it done during study hall. I also will allow time at the end of each subject for the students to start their homework so that if they have any questions I am available to help. However, I will be assigning some writing assignments that will require some out of class work.
Homework assigned will be due the next day. If the assignment is not turned in the next day they will be able to turn it in the following day with a ten point deduction. After that day the student will not be able to turn the assignment in and will receive a zero on that specific assignment. Your child should have an assignment notebook that they fill out daily so that there is no confusion on what was assigned. However, if your child is absent from school they will have the same number of days that he or she was absent to make up the missed work.
If you or your child needs to speak with me during the evening, please feel free to call me. If I am not home I will try to get back to you as soon as I can. I will not call you after 9:00 p.m. and I would appreciate it if you would not call me after 8:30 p.m. My number is 217-636-7286. My email is email@example.com You may also get in touch with me during school hours at 632-7781.
I look forward to working with you in making this a successful year for your child.
