3rd Grade Teamletter

Mrs. Dempsey
Students seemed to enjoy our community trip in Petersburg on Tuesday. We learned a lot of interesting information at the library, courthouse, and Edgar Lee Masters Home. At the bank we were able to actually hold $10,000!! That was quite an experience for all of us!!!! Everyone has a book to read for their first book report. Information about the book report will come home at the beginning of next week so students will have a long weekend to work on it. It will be due Friday, October 17th. As you know, conferences will be held on Thursday evening, Oct. 30th and Friday morning, Oct. 31st. I will be sending home a slip today with the time and date for your child’s conference. If your time doesn’t work for you, please let me know ASAP and I’ll try to schedule a different time. Since we won’t be in school on Halloween, our party will be on Thursday, Oct. 30th at 12:30. Parents – this is your child’s party and to make it successful, I need your help!!! I still do not have a volunteer to coordinate the party (you will need to call and remind those that have volunteered), or for games/crafts (crafts and games can be simple, kids just want to have fun!!). If you would like to be in charge of one of these, please jot a note in your child’s Planner. Our star students this month for responsibility were Trey Hild and Tyler Guinan. They continue to set good examples for our class! As always thank you for checking and signing the Planners daily. If you have any questions or concerns, please jot a note in your child’s Planner. Have a great weekend!

Hello Parents! We have moved right into a scary month where all Porta Central students are going to be working on good manners! I will be looking for Star Students who exhibit good etiquette ALL the time. Our community field trip was so nice! The students really enjoyed all the places we visited and I encourage you to ask them all about it! Many students were excited to know that they could get a library card if they lived within the town—hint, hint! Information on the first book report came home last week. Your child has chosen a book to read and should be working on this a little each night. Remember the final project is due October 21! We will be working on letter writing in class, so the students should be experts by the time they finish reading their books. Along with daily homework, the students should also be practicing their math facts and spelling words every night! We started ARP this week and I am so excited to see all of the reading that is going on in my room! It is awesome! Be sure to ask your child how they are doing! The Halloween Party will be on October 30 in the afternoon. This will include a parade of costumes—I will send more information home at a later date. I sent home letters this week to parents who have volunteered to help with classroom parties. Thank you so much and be sure to let me know if you have questions! Have a great weekend!

Your child has been bringing home his book report book to read this week. The book is supposed to be read by Tues. Oct. 7th. This assignment should have been written down in his planner each night this week. We will begin working on the sloppy copy of your child's book report on Tues Oct.7th. He will bring it home with all the directions so you will know what needs to be done on the final copy. The final copy is due Oct. 15th.
Continue to check planners and homework folders nightly. I have seen a few folders which have a week or 2 of papers in them. Please help your child go through these pages so he can stay organized.
