3rd Grade Teamletter

February 02, 2012

Mrs. Dempsey

A list of the students in our classroom went home at the beginning of the week so children could begin addressing their Valentines.  Our party will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 2:00. If you signed up to help, Pamela Manning will be calling to remind you of what you offered to do for the party.  Is everyone practicing multiplication facts nightly? Remember, some students still need to be practicing subtraction and addition facts also.  Math facts do not go away!!  If your child is having difficulties with any of these, time at home practicing these facts will help tremendously!  We made our planets this week (thanks to Becky Bailey and Michelle Simmons for helping out) and will be painting them tomorrow.  I’m sure your child shared this fun project with you.  Parent/teacher conferences will be Thursday, Feb. 16th from 5–8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 17th from 8 a.m.–12 p.m.  These are conferences for students that I have concerns about but if you want to schedule a conference, please let me know.  I will be sending home sheets next week.  Parents, please help us out!  We have gone through about 100 of the large pink erasers this school year! It is not because we have made so many mistakes; it is because they get dropped on the floor and swept up by the custodian at the end of the day!  Or someone breaks them into little pieces and they cannot be used!!  If you could buy your child one, I would really appreciate it.  The kids don’t seem to like the pencil cap erasers. Thanks!  Also, we are low on snacks.  If you haven’t contributed this school year, please consider doing so.  Everyone enjoys eating them!!  As always, thanks for your support and help!

Miss Garst

Hello Parents! Progress reports will be coming home soon.  Please review this with your child—there is still plenty of time to raise low grades before report card time.  Remind your child how important it is to turn in all homework and as always he/she may redo any homework paper that is a D or F.

The Valentine Party will be on Feb. 14 from 2:00-3:00.  Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to coordinate the party.  Please let me know if you need anything or need my help.  The students are welcome to bring in cards for the entire class if they so wish. I am sending home a class list to help with spelling of names.  We will be creating card holders in class.

We are starting multiplication in math. As with any new skill, all students will need to practice at home.  You will start seeing fact lists coming home to study with, plus flash cards are good to use.

We have been keeping a very busy schedule and this will continue through the third quarter.  Please be sure to check your child’s planner and empty their homework folder each night.  Thank you for your help at home!

Mrs. Grosboll

Dear Parents,

Boy, have we been busy this week! In Reading, we’re working on forming generalizations and reading charts; in Grammar we’re working on irregular verbs; in Math, we’re fine tuning minusing with regrouping; and in Science, we’re learning about/making a replica of the Solar System using beach balls, oranges, tangerines, walnuts, and peas.  It’s pretty cool to see how far apart the planets are in our “close” to scale model.

I sent home the list of students to help with spelling of names for Valentine cards.  Please do not send the cards until the 14th.  We will be making our card holders next week. The party will start at 2:00 that day. Also, I would like to ask that if you send in treats, please put them in individual baggies.  We usually get so many treats that we can’t eat them all on that day, so we either eat them on another day or send them home with each child.  Thanks for your cooperation! More later!

Mrs. Wilson

Valentines day list is attached.  The party will be at 2:00 on Tues., Feb.14th at 2:00.  Contact Beth Hild if you would like to help.
Spring Conferences are coming up.  If I don't contact you then your child is doing dandy and no conference is needed.  I have spoken with some of you over the phone recently so that works for me if it works for you.  If you would like to have a conference with me, jot a note in your child's planner with a preferred time and I will get back with you.
Please practice multiplication facts and spelling words nightly.  Those students who are flying through their facts are studying nightly.  We are anywhere between the 4's and the 7's.
