LANGUAGE
Mrs. Greger:
Students will spend some time practicing leads and endings for
narrative essays. They will then begin work on their own narrative
essay. The second WOD quiz is set for Monday, Oct. 6. Students will
be responsible for all 20 words they have learned. They have a
study guide to help them study.
READING
Mrs. Carter: Next
week in Reading class, we will continue reading “The Kid Who Ran
for President”. This is a novel unit, which will have vocabulary
and questions to accompany each reading. We will also spend time
talking about the Presidency and government. Our first group of
book reports will be next Tuesday, October 7th. Talk to your
student about this new type of book report.
MATH
Ms. Forgas: This week in math we discussed the effects of
outliers on the measures of central tendency and wrapped up the
chapter with the chapter one test on Friday, October 3, 2008. Next
week, students will pretest on chapter two; once again students
receiving a 90% or higher will be given alternate activities to do
instead of daily work. Chapter two begins by discussing reading and
writing large numbers and the rules of rounding. Students also
began their first quarter math project; they are making a poster
composed of three graphs containing statistics about a secret
country. Other students in the class will try to guess their
country based on the graphs presented. The students will be
creating graphs in the computer lab on October 6 and October 20.
The final product is due October 21. As always, students should be
practicing their basic facts.
