PORTA Central: Newsletter

PORTA CENTRAL NEWSLETTER

October 02, 2008

Dear Parent or Guardian,

It’s hard to believe that October is already here and Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up soon. Many of you were able to sign up for conferences at the Open House, so you are aware of your appointment time. If you do not yet have a time scheduled, please contact the office to do so.

5th / 6th HALLOWEEN PARTY
The 5th / 6th Halloween Party will be Friday, October 31 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to dress up if they wish. Only PORTA Central students may attend and all students will remain until 8:30 unless parents come into the building to pick them up. At 8:30 we will send students out to meet parents, and anyone going home with someone other than their own parent MUST have a note stating exactly what they are to do. NO ONE will be allowed to go home with anyone else, without a note. Students are asked to bring $1 to help defray the cost of the DJ and a canned food item to donate to the Menard County Food Pantry.
PARENTS: If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact the office at 632-7781.

OCTOBER IS ARP MONTH

Wednesday, October 1, all students at PORTA Central began reading toward a point goal for the month of October. If the building reaches its goal of 2500 points, the students will have a Gum Day. If the classrooms reach their goals, they will get a popcorn party and if everyone in a class participates, drinks will be provided at the popcorn party. Please encourage your child to read and participate in this program. The program is intended to promote reading for enjoyment. There will be a bulletin board in the main hallway that will keep track of each classroom’s points on a daily basis. Ask your child how his/her class is doing. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Thomas.

MARKET DAY NEWS
Kudos to all the 6th grade parents and FACS Club students who volunteered at September's Market Day sale. Their help and support was awesome! PORTA received over $500 in profit from September sales due to your generous support. If you've never ordered before - it's easy! And the timing is perfect to purchase goodies for your trick or treaters. Check your student's backpack for October's order form. The sheet must be returned to school by Tues., Oct. 14 or order online through noon on Fri., Oct. 17. Pick-up date and time is Wed., Oct. 22 at PORTA Central, 6:45 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. Contact Judy Foster with any questions, 632-5321.

BOXTOP COLLECTION
I would like to thank everyone who has sent boxtops to school to help us earn extra money. Please continue to do so. Your support is truly appreciated.

SKYWARD FAMILY ACCESS
The PORTA CUSD #202 is pleased to announce the implementation of Family Access by Skyward, Inc. Family Access is a secure Internet based website that will allow you to easily keep track of nearly everything your student(s) does while at school. Among other things, this new service will allow you to view your student’s attendance (K-12th), grades (5th-12th), schedule (7th-12th) food service balance (K-12th), and emergency information (K-12th). Family Access is a free service and will be available to all parents with children enrolled in the district.

In order for you to begin using Family Access, you will need to register for a login and password. By emailing to (skyward@porta202.org) with your name, student or students name, preferred login and password and your phone number, by sending this information you are authorizing the PORTA CUSD #202 to setup your account.

We are very excited about how Family Access will help you stay informed about your student’s progress and hope that we can use this tool to create a stronger relationship between parents and our school community.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Eric Kesler at 632-3803 or by email ekesler@porta202.org.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Linda Tusek, Principal
