SPELLING BEE
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 7th. Everyone did a wonderful job and we were very proud of all of you. Thanks to Ms. Garst, Ms. Atwater, Mr. Hurie, and all of the teachers and parents who helped out. A special congratulations to Grace Sinclair -FIRST PLACE winner, and Steffan Honkala - RUNNER UP. Great Job!
Li’l BLUEJAY WRESTLING CLUB
Li’l Bluejay Wrestling begins with registration on February 23rd from 6:00-6:30 and practice following from 6:30-7:30. The club is designed to teach younger wrestlers the sport and give them an option during the winter months. It has been in existence since 1992 and has helped produce current and former PORTA High School wrestlers. Information/registration forms are available in the school office.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
State law requires public schools to conduct background checks on anyone working directly with students. This requirement extends to parent volunteers. Therefore, the PORTA District asks parents who volunteer in their child’s classroom on a regular basis to stop by the school office, pick up, and complete the background check form. Parents attending special events in their child’s classroom such as classroom parties, birthday treats during milk break, end-of-the-year picnic, etc. are not subject to the background check at this time. Your cooperation in keeping our students safe is greatly appreciated.
KINDERGARTEN PRE-REGISTRATION FOR 2012-2013
Children who will be five years old by September 1, 2012, are eligible to attend kindergarten this fall.
If you know of someone who has a child that will be eligible for kindergarten this fall, please ask them to contact Petersburg Elementary (632-7731) by February 10th.
DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS
Developmental screenings for 3 to 5 year olds will be held in Petersburg on March 9th and again on the morning of March 16th. Developmental areas to be checked include speech, language, movement skills, and basic concepts. The screening takes approximately one hour to complete. Please call the Petersburg Elementary School office (632-7731) to make an appointment for either date.
