LUNCH MENU: TODAY-Chicken Tenders or Combo Deli Sandwich or Chef Salad, Bread w/margarine, Applesauce, Whole Grain Graham, Cookies, Milk. TOMORROW-Country Fried Steak on Bun or Pork BBQ on Bun or Chef Salad, Whipped Potatoes w/Gravy, Peanut Butter Cookie, Peaches, Milk.
1. The last day to register to vote at the Court House is Oct.
7th. They are open
until 4:30 each day.
2. PLAY PRACTICE FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 6TH: Monday, 6 pm - 9 pm, Tuesday, 3:30 -5:30 (This is a CHANGE!!) and Thursday, 6 pm - 9 pm. See Mrs. DePatis if you have any questions.
3. Juniors- The PSAT/NMSQT test will be given here at PORTA to interested juniors on Wed. Oct. 15th. This is the qualifying test for entering the National Merit Scholarship Corporation competition for college scholarships awarded in 2010. Info. about this program is available at www.nationalmerit.org Cost for this exam is $13.00, make checks payable to PORTA High School. Your payment reserves your test. Limited quantities are available. Registration deadline is Oct. 6th.
4. Lori Chapman from Menard County United Fund will be here during lunches on Thursday selling Blacktop Braggin Rights T-shirts. Cost is $10.00 each.
5. In girls golf Saturday at the Auburn Ryder Cup Format Tournament, PORTA placed 3rd as a team behind Chatham and Springfield HS. Winning alternate shot - Brooks White and Aubrey Stevens. Next meet - Regionals, Wednesday at Rushville.
6. ANYONE INTERESTED IN WATCHING THE SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IS WELCOME TO WATCH IT WITH MRS. PEREZ IN ROOM 110 TUESDAY EVENING! THE EAST DOORS BY HER CLASS ROOM WILL BE UNLOCKED AT 7:30; THE DEBATE WILL BEGIN AT 8:00. BRING SOME MUNCHIES AND COME WATCH HISTORY BEING MADE!
7. Seniors: Jostens will be here on October 22 during advisory and October 29 during lunch for a meeting about Cap, Gown and Announcemnts.

There will be an Interact club meeting Thursday Oct 9 during
advisory in Mr. Trigg's room. And please pay your $5 dues to Mr.
Trigg or Kendra Tucker ASAP.
9. 9th Grade Students-Physicals and Tetanus Boosters are due by Oct. 15, 2008. Remember, if you do not have a physical and tetanus booster on file by Oct. 15th you will be excluded from school. The following students have not turned in a physical: ALLISON BUEHNER, KAITLYN CAMPBELL, CAITLYN DRAPER, ANNETTE GOLDEN, JOSHUA GRIFFITH, DYLAN HOWELL, JORDAN KLINE, TIMOTHY LANE, LUKE MCFARLAND, ABIGAIL MCHENRY, ELI REISER, REILLY SCHWESKA, VANESSA SHARP, KATHERINE SIDWELL, CALEB SORRELLS, JENNA TISDALE, KORY WALL, JESSICA WHITE, & MARION WOOD.
10. We will be ordering letterman jackets Oct. 15th we will not order any after that date ! There are order forms on Coach Hill's office door.
11. Attention Key Club members: Volunteers are needed to work at the “Where are the Wild Things?” event at the Illinois State Museum on Sunday, October 26. The shifts are from 8:30-11:30, 11:30-2:30, 2:00-5:00, and 4:30-6:30. Duties will include handing out candy, helping with educational activities, assisting with traffic flow, helping at performances, stamping programs, etc. If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up on the sheet outside Ms. Perez’s room or on the sheet on the high school office window. Please pick up a Release of Liability from Ms. Perez or Rachel Morgan. The deadline to sign-up is Wed., Oct. 15th.
12. FACS Club News: 1. There will be a meeting Tuesday, October
7th during advisory in Room 124. We will be starting our fundraiser
and all paid members need to attend to get their forms. See Mrs.
Becker or Mrs. Raikes if unable to attend.
2. Members are needed to work the Swim Meet Tuesday, October 7th
from 4-6 p.m. Sign up on the Kitchen door. You need to start
earning service points.
