Mrs. Marshall teaches AP Literature, AP Language, English IV, Film & Literature, Novels and ACT prep. She is in her fifth year at PORTA, but her 23rd in teaching, having taught junior high, high school, junior college, and college classes over the last two decades. She received her Bachelor's at WIU, her Master's at NIU, and is in the process of a re-started PhD, which she had to abandon when she moved to Central Illinois to care for her mother.
Mrs. Marshall is also enthusiastic about sports, having been a State Champion Shot Putter in 1980 (high school) and 1982 (college). She has coached or directed a variety of sports and activities, including track, volleyball, basketball (though very badly), speech, yearbook, musicals & plays, and literary magazines. At PORTA, Mrs. Marshall coaches Future Problem solvers, a wonderful group you really should join.
Mrs. Marshall is married with one child and is also the proud owner (or perhaps is proudly owned by) a wolf-sable Pomeranian named Connor (there can be only one--see the Highlander movies); an overly-sensitive mini American Eskimo named Cody; a Tiny black Pomeranian, Bridget; and a floppy Golden Retriever who's been christened Cassidy. The horses (Grace and Taz) are Arabian and Morgan, respectively, and every neighborhood cat that comes to call is known merely as "trouble," though Maggie the black cat is intentionally owned. Perhaps there will be more cats when the big barn is built.
In her spare time, Mrs Marshall enjoys Renaissance Faires, powerlifting, reading (Toni Morrison, Richard Wright, and Neil Gaiman are current faves), writing (she's and English teacher; what did you expect?), canine agility, motorcycles and traveling (where are all the buffalos that allegedly live in South Dakota??)
