This year marks my 11th year teaching at PORTA High School and my 25th year teaching overall! I teach U.S. History to 11th graders, U.S. History Seminar to 11th and 12th graders, and Current Social Issues to 11th and 12th graders.
I am a graduate of Athens High School and earned my B.A. in History at Eastern Illinois University. I began my teaching career in Texas where I spent 13 1/2 years teaching in the Houston area. I returned home in January 1997 and began teaching at PORTA the following August. I recently received my M.A. in Public History from the University of Illinois Springfield and am quite relieved to have that venture behind me!
I live in Petersburg with my daughter Greta who is a 7th grader at PORTA Jr. High, our black cat "Rosie", and our black Shih Tzu "Meesha". I look forward to serving as Key Club Advisor this year as well as co-sponsor of the Senior Class.
My hobbies include running my daughter from practice to practice, gardening, photography, and St. Louis Cardinal baseball!
Should you need to contact me, my conference period is from 9:52-10:39. You can also e-mail me at kperez@porta202.org
