Summer Science Olympiad camp held in July
Several students from Porta Central and Jr. High attended the Science Olympiad sponsored summer Camp, July 5 - 8. The students engineered bridges, that they designed and constructed using a limited amount of wood and meeting certain building requirements. They also engineered water bottle rockets that were tested and scored on the last day. This was a very interesting testing period as some rockets seemed to have a mind of their own! Part of the camp also dealt with Forensics, with the students identifying their fingerprint types and learning to identify some types of white powders and crystals. The final day consisted of testing their structures and forensics abilities, each member placed in the top seven in at least one of the events. Ribbons were awarded to the top 7 places.

Best Bottle rocket, longest time aloft: 1st - David Pellerin, 2nd - Lexy White, 3rd - Courtney Clark, Garett Laurant, Hattie Dooley, 4th - Chloe Turasky, 5th - Angel Banning, 6th - Nick Swenson, 7th - Noah Foster and Will Heikes
Furthest Run with rocket straws: 1st - Kaitlyn Swenson, 2nd - Will Heikes, 3rd - Adam Miller, 4th - Addison McMahon, 5th - Hattie Dooley, 6th - Garet Laurent, 7th - Bailey Porter
Forensics(we regret that tests seem to be missing) Top finishers were Bailey Porter with the high score overall followed by Cody Kuehl. We apologize to our other ribbon winners in this event.
The camp was directed by Heidi Scaggs and Mike Schlatweiller and Raymond Phillips. Very appreciated and helpful student volunteers Eli Reiser, Kobi Rossi, Brandon Bettis, Sean Riley, Nic Sinclair, Raymond Phillips, Summer Worthington, Cody Kinsel, Heather Brooks! You all did a great job in lending a hand to the campers and or helping run an event!
