Volcano Project
Work in pairs or by yourself. If you work in pairs, the other person must be in your class. You will present your projects to the class. If you are in 1st and your partner is in 5th, that doesn’t work.
You have three choices:
- Build a working volcano. You choose and find the materials. I have some recipes for paper mache if you want them. Answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper.
- Develop a ten-slide PowerPoint presentation on a volcano. This can be done at home or in school. The slides should cover all the answers to the questions.
- Design and draw a 28” by 22” poster of a volcano. You must answer all the questions on the poster. If you run out of room on the front, continue answering the questions on the back.
You will be randomly assigned one of these three volcanoes to build or report on. You will have to do some research to find out about these eruptions.
- Vesuvius 79 A. D.
- Tambora 1815
- Mauna Loa 1933
Each project must answer the following questions about your volcano:
- Where is the volcano?
- What type of volcano is it? This should determine the shape of your volcano, either constructed, shown in the PowerPoint or drawn.
- What type of eruptive force did it have? If yours is supposed to be high, your model should show that.
- What was the effect on the surrounding population and environment?
