HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS: Friday, December 1, 2023

 

LUNCH MENU TODAY: Chicken Quesadilla & Salsa, Refried Beans, Assorted Fruit Cup, Milk

Available daily:  Hamburger/Cheeseburger & Pizza.  

Monday Breakfast: Cereal Bowl Kit, Fruit, Juice, Milk. 

Monday Lunch: Sausage Gravy & Biscuit, String Cheese Stick, Oven Potatoes, Pineapple Cup, Milk. 


Together we CAN make a big difference! Help PORTA's Community Problem Solvers and FFA fight hunger in Menard County this Christmas by bringing nonperishable food items to Mrs. Chalmers' room (106) from December 1-21. All donations will go to the Menard County Food Pantry.


Attention juniors & seniors: on Monday 12/11/23 Sydney Rockwell from ISAC (Illinois Student Assistance Commission) will be in the auditorium at 7pn presenting a workshop on the Financial Aid Process.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend with you.  The information being given is invaluable with all the FAFSA changes being made this year. 


High School students: if you would like to make changes to your schedule for 2nd semester, come to Student Services to pick up a form.  It must be signed by the teachers of the classes you are changing, as well as a parent/guardian.  Signed forms are due back to Mrs. Taylor by December 20, 2023.  No changes will be made to schedules when we return in January unless requested by a teacher.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Taylor.


“SENIORS you must send in baby photos along with a senior photo ASAP. When you send it in make sure that you say whether you would like to use your school photo as well."

 

Juniors - If you are planning to attend PROM 2024 you need to pay your Prom Dues of $75 to Mrs. Matheny or Mr. McMahan before February 15. After February 15th Prom Dues will be $100. 

 

Seniors - If you are planning to attend Prom at PORTA this year and did not pay dues last year, then you must pay dues this year. They are $75 until February 15th, but after that will be $100.

 

Every Tuesday and Thursday Yearbook will be selling Suckers for $1 during lunch in the commons. 

 

Yearbook is now selling Fuzzy Fleece Blankets! $35 per blanket. See a yearbook member/staff or come to the art room to get yours!

Hello 7th and 8th Graders! Are you interested in trivia? Do you know things that no one else seems to know? Do you want a group to join? We would love to welcome you to Scholastic Bowl! Your favorite sub Mrs. Sloman is the new coach. We will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays right after school until 4:30. Matches start in January, so we will try to get in some practice before then. (if you are involved in other sports or activities don't let that stop you from joining. I am flexible, just ask me and we may be able to work something out) Please e-mail me at [email protected] if interested and if you have any questions. I plan on having a brief parent meeting next Thursday December 7th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Library.

First practice will be Next Monday December 4th in the Central Library.

 

Junior high students and staff, Our 8th grade girls basketball team will play in a Sectional Championship game next Wednesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm in Pittsfield.  We want a huge fan section to go and cheer for the team! If you would like to ride a free fan bus to the game, please sign up on the sheet in the school office by the end of the day Friday, Dec. 1st. Entry to the game is $3.00 for students.The $3.00 entry fee will be covered for students who ride the fan bus. The bus will leave PORTA Jr-Sr High at 5:00 pm and return at around 9:30. Students must be eligible (per this Friday's eligibility list) and have no major disciplinary incidents this semester to ride the bus to the game. 

 

The JH Student Council has organized an 8 on 8 double elimination tourney.  There will be 13 games held in the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays during advisory. We ask that only the two teams playing be allowed to have fans from their own advisory attend the game. Good luck to all teams! Students must be wearing tennis shoes to play.

 

Homework help is available on Tuesday & Thursday each week from 3:15p - 4:15.  If you are behind on your homework or need some extra help please plan to stay after school on these days

 

Homework help next week on Tuesday with be with Mrs. Hacke in room 138 and Thursday will be with Mrs. Schafer in room 139 until 4:15


Detentions next week will be with Mrs. Hacke in room 138 starting at 3:20 and will end at 4pm.
